What a great year . . . Seriously!

Almost everyone has been thinking about getting 2020 behind them, but I want to focus on some of the positive things that happened.  There was a lot going on, so I apologize ahead of time for the long post.

No year is completely negative and here are some gems that I will keep with me from last 12 months.

In January:
We pulled together with the LEO community to raise money for a local law enforcement officer who was battling cancer.

We also held a weightlifting meet with many youth lifters competing for the first time!

There were 6 Hero Workouts and 105 Personal Records

In February:
We held an in house partners competition in honor of the Leap year.

There were 6 Hero Workouts and 100 Personal Records

In March:
We started a Zombie Apocalypse Depot where people could exchange goods like canned protein (tuna, chicken, etc.) toilet paper, coffee and paper towels which were in short supply at the grocery stores.

We started up a Corona WOD that could be done at home for those unable to come to the gym.

There were 6 Hero Workouts and 87 Personal Records.

In April:
Well April Happened . . .
The state governor shut down gyms, but left the construction industry untouched, so we took it upon ourselves to do some renovations at the gym, installing new platforms, new weight racks, new paint, and new ceiling coverings.  There was 0 membership cancellations (We thank you all so much!)  So many people lent a hand, turning their gym bags in for tool buckets.  Phone calls were made to the governors office and petitions were signed. It was an amazing sense of community!

There was an at home CrossFit competition as a fund raiser for gyms.

There were 6 Hero workouts assigned to be done at home, but obviously there were no Personal Records recorded in the gym

In May:
Rachel started up as a trainer!

May 15th, Gyms were reopened at 50% capacity!

5 Hero Workouts were assigned for Gym or Home workouts and 170 new Personal Records!

In June:

We started up the annual bi-weekly Gym BBQ's, which ran through August.

The murder of George Floyd happened, along with all its' aftermath.  I was so proud to have a place of open discussion, from many points of view on an event which rocked both the CrossFit Community and the world at large.  I felt it was outstanding that we came together to discuss and decide our actions as a community rather than resort to the tribalistic name calling and finger pointing that takes over most of social media these days.  The real actions of our decisions will be coming up in the next couple months, so this will be a subject we revisit shortly.

We also cleaned out a whole lot of abandoned lockers and made them available to the membership at large.  If you are looking for one there are still some available!

6 Hero Wods were done and 111 new Personal records!

In July:
We hosted an independently sanctioned weightlifting meet and held the Big Sky State Games Olympic Weightlifting Meet and Power lifting meet for 3 meets in a single month.

There were 6 Hero Workouts and 125 new Personal Records!

In August:
Ashley came on as a trainer!

There were 5 Hero Workouts and 106 new Personal Records!

In September:
The Grit Spartan Racing team started working out with us on select Saturdays.

There were 4 Hero WOD's  and 124 new Personal Records!

In October:
Jared and Nelly, long time friends of the Gym became parents.

Tricia made it safely back from her deployment in Iraq!

Diana came on as a trainer!

There were 6 Hero Workouts and 159 new Personal Records!

In November:
We started a holiday workout challenge over 5 weeks with 5 different Hero WODs.

Steve had a little girl, Onyx.

Ali stepped up as a trainer!

There were 6 Hero Workouts and 150 Personal Records!

In December:
Tara and Ryan had baby Macklean.  (Workout in Feb!)

We wrapped up the holiday workout competition.  (Scores are getting figured out tonight.)

We announced a New Year accountability challenge.

We formed a posse and moved everything that Anthony owns in 3 hours.  It took a moving truck, trailer and several pickups.  Serious moving for time!

Even with a late box delivery, we overflowed the Toys for Tots bin in 4 days!

There were 5 Hero Workouts and 208 Personal Records

Even with no scores being recorded in April due to a government induced lock down, we still had total of  1,445 Personal Records set and 67 Hero Workouts accomplished  along with the 5 in the holiday competition that makes  72 super hardcore workouts in 2020, along with the day to day training.

Each one of those records and gut check workouts involved members improving on something in their lives.  That is awesome my peeps!

Many are going to view 2020 as the hardest year of their lives and I don't want to make light of that.  There was a lot of division in the country as a whole.  However, we were all stronger as a community over this time period than I have ever seen, since we opened doors in 2009.  You all accomplished an amazing amount of positive things both on a personal level and as a community and I am so proud of you for that.  Thank you for making this gym family what it is!

Now let's kick 2021 in the a$$!

New Year Accountability Challenge

Kick Your Poison

Alternative Athletics is rolling out a Three-Month Accountability Challenge in the next few weeks.

To participate starting mid-January, we would like you to choose three things YOU feel you need to work on.
It could be limiting your sugar intake or removing it from your diet completely.

Want to try Paleo?

Intermittent fasting?

Take this time to try it out and have someone else help you stick with it.

And this challenge isn’t just about nutrition. Maybe you need to be conscious about getting more sleep or drinking more water. Do you need to hit the gym once or twice more each week? Take time to meditate or go to a yoga class?

Journaling will be a vital part of this process. It can be something official or even as simple as a Dollar Store notebook.

We have lots of great thoughts to help you turn a resolution into a lifestyle. And we’d love to hear your ideas and objectives as well.

As part of the group, you can play a key role in helping your gym mates with their own “poisons.”

Watch the website and signs at the gym for more information on our official start date. (We are looking at the second week in January. New moon on January 12 means it’s a great time to state your intentions for a positive change.)

Talk to Kelia about sign-up.

Let’s do this!

Kelia, Suzanne an Joan

U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Andrew T. Weathers, 30, of DeRidder, Louisiana, died Sept. 30, 2014, at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany.
Weathers was wounded Sept. 28 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, when he heroically ran to a rooftop through hundreds of incoming rounds to repel an attack of insurgents who were attempting to overrun his position. His actions saved the lives of five U.S. Green Berets and nine Afghan Commandos at his location. Weathers was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
Weathers is survived by his parents, Michael and Jere; sister, Carrie; brother, Dusten; and many other friends and family.
